In the selection of players for the SDO programme and Team Afghanistan it is strength of character and determination that are key requirements.

Team Afghanistan is organised by Sanayee Development Organisation (SDO) and made up of homeless people and orphans, the most deprived sectors of Afghan society. Hazart Hakeem Sanayee (1088-1166 A.D.) was one of Afghanistan’s most outstanding poets with a great knowledge of religion, logic, philosophy and literature. As an organization that aims to provide opportunities to Afghans through education, Sanayee Development Organization is named after Sanayee as a mark of his scholarly and literary achievements. Afghanistan's "Lets end Poverty" Mini Football Tournament

On 25 May 2007 Sanayee Development Organization SDO, with cooperation of Afghanistan National Football Federation ANFF, organized a one-day first ever mini football tournament entitled Your Voice Against Poverty in Kabul. Eight leading football teams (SDO team A & B, National Army, Kabul Bank, Maiwand, Sabawoon, Selected Team of Afghanistan and Hindokush) participated in this tournament. The members of these teams are poor and homeless youth coming from different areas and ethnic groups of Afghanistan.

After 27 years of war sport is a low priority in a country dominated by poverty and instability. Organisations like SDF are now taking steps towards enhancing the level of sports provision here.

Sanayee Development Foundation (SDF) is an Afghan NGO that has worked in Education, Peace Building, Civil Society Development and Community Health since 1990. SDF will support the Afghan team at the 2007 Homeless World Cup.
